π₯ Sourdough Sandwich Bread Recipe
π Ingredients:
- 500g bread flour (or all-purpose flour)
- 100g active sourdough starter (fed & bubbly)
- 250ml lukewarm milk (or water)
- 30g butter (soft)
- 25g sugar (optional, but great for sandwich bread)
- 10g salt
π©βπ³ Instructions:
1. Mix the Dough
In a bowl:
- Mix the starter, milk, and sugar
- Add the flour and form a dough
- Finally, add salt and butter, then knead well for 8β10 minutes
π The dough should be smooth and soft
2. First Rise (Bulk Fermentation)
- Cover the dough and place it in a warm spot for 4β6 hours
- Every 1 hour, do a light stretch & fold (2β3 times total)
π The dough should look slightly puffy
3. Shape the Dough
- Roll the dough into a rectangle
- Tightly roll it into a loaf shape
- Place it in a greased loaf pan
4. Second Rise
- Let it proof for 2β4 hours
- When the dough reaches the top of the pan, it’s ready
5. Bake π₯
- Preheat oven to 180Β°C
- Bake for 30β35 minutes
- Itβs ready when the top turns golden brown
6. Cool Down
- Remove the bread from the pan and let it cool on a rack
- Slice only after itβs completely cooled
π‘ Tips (Important):
- Make sure your starter is active, otherwise the bread will turn dense
- Using milk makes the bread softer and fluffier
- You can skip butter, but the texture will be slightly dry
- You can also do overnight fridge proofing for the best flavor
